Papal Visit to Canada
“Pope Francis will make a pastoral visit to Canada from July 24 to 29, 2022. The Pope’s visit will provide a unique opportunity for him, once again, to listen and dialogue with Indigenous Peoples, to express his heartfelt closeness and to address the impact of colonization and the participation of the Catholic Church in the operation of residential schools throughout Canada. The papal visit will also provide an opportunity for the shepherd of the world’s 1.2 billion Catholics to connect with the Catholic community in Canada.” (www.papalvisit.ca)

“We should be praying. The gesture that the Holy Father is making is an authentic one and he’s trying. He’s coming to Canada for a very specific task. Let’s pray this week for the Holy Father’s visit.

Prayer for the Second World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly
I give thanks to you, Lord,
For the blessing of a long life
For, to those who take refuge in You,
Grant always to bear fruit.
Forgive, O Lord,
Resignation and disillusionment, But forsake me not
When my strength declines.
Teach me to look with hope
To the future you give me,
To the mission you entrust to me
And to sing your praises without end.
Make me a tender craftsman
Of Your revolution,
To guard with love my grandchildren
And all the little ones who seek shelter in You.
Protect, O Lord, Pope Francis
And grant Thy Church
To deliver the world from loneliness.
Direct our steps in the way of peace. Amen.

Funeral Reception Committee – Help Needed
Dear Parishioners of Annunciation of the Lord Parish,
Our parish has a Funeral Reception Committee which I have been facilitating since 2017. I regard this ministry as a beautiful way of walking with families who have lost a beloved member of their family. We practice the Spiritual and Corporal Works of Mercy by praying for the repose of the soul of the deceased and by consoling and comforting the family who grieve by our words and actions of loving service.
Not everyone on the committee can respond each time and, for that reason, I would like to double the size of this committee from 50 to 100. I am extending an invitation to you to join us. This is a wonderful opportunity for those of you who are working to offer your time and talents by baking or making sandwiches and contributing in this way to the life of the Parish. In addition to the food requirements for a reception I am in need of those who can assist with plating the food that is brought in; with preparing coffee, tea and beverage service; with setting up our facility to make it beautiful for those who grieve; with serving; and finally with clean-up which includes washing dishes and putting everything away.
Please reply to me at jpwarren@rogers.com or phone 613-749-7653 to let me know of your willingness to serve on this committee and what tasks you would enjoy doing.
Most of our receptions are during the week, but there have been a few on Saturdays. Usually we have about 5 days to put a reception together. I send out a notice and tell you what is needed in 2 hour blocks of time. You respond with how you can be of assistance. When my requirements are filled, I advise you. We have many on the committee now who are skilled and they look forward to coaching you.
Of the 50 on the committee now, many are CWL members who have been doing this for 20 years or more. There is lots of experience. Please join us and help us grow this parish ministry. This invitation is open to men and women.
Sincerely,
Janet Warren
News and Notes – Summer Schedule
As we move into summer and things slow down at the parish, there is less news to share. Therefore, we will be sending out News and Notes every two weeks during July and August. The next edition will be July 20. From the Communications Team, have an enjoyable and blessed summer.
