PARISH NEWS
PRAYER INTENTION – CONFIRMATIONS
On May 30, a number of young people in our parish will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation! Let’s pray for them to receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit and to live their faith with courage and joy.

On the day of Pentecost, Jesus’s disciples gathered in a simple room. Though they had witnessed all of Jesus’ miracles, and even his resurrection, they kept the news to themselves. How could they “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature” as Jesus had commanded them? They weren’t priests or scholars. They were ordinary. They weren’t important enough. They were afraid.
Then the Holy Spirit came. In an instant, their hearts were transformed. They poured out of the upper room and began telling others immediately about Jesus. Scripture tells us about three thousand were baptized that day, so moved by what they heard. Because of the words of these ordinary men and women, they encountered Jesus.
Pentecost is this weekend! Join us for a Pentecost Vigil on May 27 from 7-9pm and experience the Holy Spirit in a new way. We will have a talk from Fr. Ken Lao C.C., with music provided by parishioner Jeff Lavery. Prayer teams will be available to pray with you and ask for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit in your life. There will be light refreshments and fellowship to follow. Prayer teams will also be available after the 9am and 11am Sunday Masses.
We are ordinary. We have our own weaknesses and fears. We may not be good at public speaking, and yet we, like the disciples, are called by Jesus to “Go into all the world and preach the gospel.” But Jesus doesn’t send us out alone! He promised his Holy Spirit to help us. The Holy Spirit stirs up in us a love of God and others, and the courage to love like Jesus loves. Where there is fear, anxiety, and grief in us, he can bring peace and hope.
As we head into Pentecost, take a moment to invite the Holy Spirit into your life with this simple, ancient prayer:
Come Holy Spirit,
fill the hearts of your faithful
and kindle in them the fire of your love.
Send forth your Spirit
and they shall be created.
And You shall renew the face of the earth.
