News & Notes – June 21, 2024

This past weekend, Fr. Kevin announced the launch of our summer 11:02 campaign. The 11:02 Prayer Initiative, originating from Holy Trinity Brompton in London, UK, encourages church communities to set their alarms for 11:02 everyday and pray for three friends they would like to invite to Alpha or to church.

He said to them, “When you pray, say: ‘Father, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come.’”

Luke 11:2

Who is someone that you would love to see encounter Christ? Is there a name (or three) God has been putting on your heart? Join the 11:02 Challenge in three easy steps!

Step 1: Take a prayer card from the church pews and write the names of three people that you hope to see encounter God.

Step 2: Set an alarm for 11:02 am

Step 3: At 11:02 am each day, pause and say a quick prayer for the names on your card.

That’s it! It’s simple, but it’s powerful. And it can transform lives.

Our Scuba summer camp is just around the corner and the team is preparing a wonderful underwater environment for the participants. We are looking for some help gathering a few supplies. They are looking for:

  • Sturdy boxes such as the boxes diapers come in. If anyone has a diaper box or two, please bring it to the parish by July 5th. They will be used to create coral arches. The more boxes we collect, the more arches we can build!
  • A school of paper fish. We are looking for many, many fish to create schools of fish in different areas. If anyone would like to cut out paper fish in various bright colours, we will have packets available at the Welcome Desk for you to pick up, cut out and bring back to the parish by July 5th. If all the packets are gone, you are welcome to create your own fish (anywhere from 2 inches to 10 inches long). We will add them to our waters. All fish are welcome!

Mark your calendars! Annunciation is hosting a sports camp this summer. This camp will be taking place Tuesday, July 2nd through Friday, July 5th from 10am to 1pm at the park right next to the parish. All are invited to join us for 9am Mass before camp begins! Click here to register.

Ages: 6-11 years (entering grade 1 up to entering grade 7)

Cost: $60/child or $15/day

Over the past month, our parish has raised over $15,500 towards a $21,000 goal in order to send 19 high school students and their youth group leaders to Steubenville Atlantic, a summer conference where youth encounter Jesus in a new way, are formed in their faith, and meet other young Catholics.

Thank you to everyone who has given so generously! It is such an incredible blessing to be able to support our parish youth in growing in their faith and leadership.

Help us reach the last 5,500! The goal will be reached if:

  • 110 people donate $50
  • 55 people donate $100

If you are interested in making a donation towards their trip, click here and select “Steubenville” from the dropdown menu.

39 years ago, Fr. Bob Bedard founded a new Community of Catholic priests that is thriving! (42 priests, 2 Bishops) The Companions of the Cross are transforming the modern-day priesthood and we’re doing it by the power of the Holy Spirit and with your support!

The Companions model for the priesthood is different… As brothers living in community, we seek to witness to the joy of serving Christ by enthusiastically apprenticing one another in our leadership skills – this requires strategically investing in ongoing leadership training.

What is involved in adopting a Companion of the Cross?

  • Spiritual Adoption – receive a prayer card and pray for your CC priest daily.
  • Financial Support – $30 monthly or $360 annually.
