PARISH NEWS

The Archdiocese invites you to prepare for Pentecost by praying the Holy Spirit Novena, beginning today, Friday, May 10, 2024. You can find each of the daily prayers (in ENG or FR) on the diocesan website or on social media.

Did you know that the novena leading up to Pentecost is the most ancient of novenas? After Jesus’ Ascension, Mary and the Apostles gathered in the Upper Room and prayed for nine days for the coming of the Holy Spirit.

Pentecost unleashed the power of the Holy Spirit in the Early Church. It gave the disciples the courage to boldly share the Gospel and bring Christ’s love to every nation. As a diocese, let us join together and pray for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit over our city!

Tis the season for spring cleaning! Like any home, we need to keep our parish clean and decluttered. To help us with this process, we ask that you would refrain from dropping off items you no longer need. As much as we appreciate your generosity, this makes it a challenge given our limited storage. If the parish is in need of items, we will make sure to let you know!

Our Parish is sending 19 high school students to the Steubenville Atlantic Conference! Steubenville Atlantic is a dynamic Catholic youth conference dedicated to nurturing the faith of young people and empowering them to live out their beliefs with conviction and joy. Held annually in the heart of Atlantic Canada, this transformative event brings together hundreds of enthusiastic young Catholics for a weekend of inspiration, fellowship, and spiritual growth. HOLY YEAR PILGRIMAGE

We are excited to officially announce the dates for the next upcoming Pilgrimage with Fr John Likozar from June 25, 2025 – July 03, 2025 in the beautifully spiritual and historical city of Rome, Italy!

The Rome Jubilee, also declared by Pope Francis as “The Holy Year”, holds profound significance in the Catholic Church, attracting millions of pilgrims and explorers from across the globe to the Eternal City. Occurring every 25 years, the Rome Jubilee represents a period of spiritual rejuvenation, contemplation, and festivity, and in 2025, we extend a heartfelt invitation for you to be part of this extraordinary experience.

There will be an Information Session (with some Italian-themed refreshments of course!) in the Parish Hall at 2 pm on Sunday, May 26th, with representatives from Collette Tours and Algonquin Travel & Cruise who will outline the itinerary in a presentation and answer questions.

Attached are some initial details for the tour and the optional extension to Venice and Padua, including but not limited to:

  • Visits to the 7 Jubilee Churches
  • Papal Blessing and Mass at Vatican and St Peter’s Square
  • Visit to the Birthplace of St Francis of Assisi
  • Access to Jubilee events including the Opening of the Holy Door at St Peter’s Basilica

The airfare options to/from Rome have not yet been released by the airlines and we expect to have further details mid-summer, 2024. The hotel stay in Rome is at the Hotel St Martin, a centrally located hotel near Rome’s main train station for ease of accessibility. A deposit of $349 CAD per person secures your spot and the balance would be due in March, 2025.

Meanwhile, if you would like to register for the Information Session on May 26th at 2 pm in the Parish Hall, please call Elaine Simpson at Algonquin Travel & Cruise Centre (613-748-3600) or email Elaine@travia.ca

This pilgrimage offers an unparalleled opportunity to partake in the Rome Jubilee 2025 and uncover the enchanting allure of the Eternal City. We hope you will join us for an indelible pilgrimage, cultural odyssey, and spiritual awakening amidst the heart of Italy.

ROAD TO PENTECOST

Join the Servants of the Cross as we prepare for the feast of Pentecost with a virtual Pentecost Novena and a book reading of the inspiring book: The Cross and the Switchblade. The Cross and the Switchblade is the story of a country preacher who, step by step, answered a call to do greater things than Jesus did. If you have a hard time “crossing that chicken line” and believing his call on your life, join us for this transformational weekend.

FUN FACT: Did you know that this book was read during that infamous retreat weekend in Duquesne University, that the experience propelled renewal in the Catholic Church back in 1967? Come Holy Spirit!

Let’s meet over a weekend and read this amazing book together! We don’t need to be chickens anymore; let’s share the Gospel with all those we meet.
