News & Notes – May 31, 2024

This coming Sunday is Corpus Christi, the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ! To celebrate this special feast, we will be having a Eucharist procession after the 11 am Mass.

Check out the diocesan “Source & Summit” playlist on Spotify, which is a curated list of worship to honour the Eucharist. Use it in your prayer time this weekend, or as you drive to Mass.

Did you catch the launch of our Atlantic Steubenville youth trip video last weekend? If you didn’t get to see it, check it out below and find out why 19 Annunciation high school students want to spend their summer growing closer to Jesus.

Our youth are currently fundraising to attend the conference and have $12, 777 left to raise. That means that we would hit our goal if:

  • 120 people donated $100
  • 240 people donated $50

Will you be one of those 120 or 240?

“I’m going to Steubenville because I want to deepen my relationship with God and make new friendships. And it will be my first time on a plane!

Getting high school students interested in the faith can be a challenge. Many parents watch their children walk away from Church and stop attending Mass. But we are so blessed to have 19 young people who are actively desiring to come closer to Christ (and who are leaders in our youth ministry)! These youth give up their Friday nights to help lead youth group for the younger grades, and are now dedicating a chunk of their summer to growing in their faith. As a parish, let’s support our young people and surround them with prayer and encouragement!

If you are interested in making a donation towards their trip, click here and select “Steubenville” from the dropdown menu.

I’m excited to meet people of my (faith) community in other regions of Canada and see God’s impact in their lives. I want to take this once in a lifetime opportunity to bring positive changes in my physical and spiritual life.

Fr. Rob will be celebrating his 60th birthday this June. We want to surprise him with a spiritual bouquet from the parish! Fill out the form below to add a special message and share how you’ll be praying for him.. All messages will be shared with him on his birthday.

But don’t spill the beans! This spiritual bouquet is a surprise, so don’t mention it to him.

On the weekend of June 8-9, we will welcome our special guest Paul from Sebastien Cardinal’s team, representing “Handicraft Holy Land Christians”. After all the Masses, he will briefly address the issues and concerns regarding the Christian presence in the Holy Land.

Christians in the Holy Land graciously ask your support through prayers and will have many unique hand-carved olive wood religious pieces made by these families in Bethlehem, which will be available for purchase after every Mass. Proceeds of the sales generate much needed employment for our Christian brothers and sisters in Bethlehem. Cash, debit, credit cards and cheque will be accepted.

All seniors are invited to join us monthly for Mass, fellowship, and good food. There is no cost to attend (though a free-will offering is appreciated), so invite a friend! This month will be our last event before the summer. To make it special, we’ll be serving a sumptuous roast beef dinner, provided by the Mission Catering staff.

Our June speaker is our very own Fr. Kevin Darwent! Celebrating his first anniversary of ordination on June 18th, we are blessed to have him speak.

Date/Time: June 19, 12pm

Registration closes at 12am on June 13th to help us plan for meal numbers.

Did you know that our parish crucifix is actually 110 years old and was found in an antique shop in Quebec?

The amazing family business that restored the crucifix filmed a video of the restoration process. The video is available online and gives beautiful insight into the skill and reverence that went into restoring our beautiful crucifix, including the little details you might not know about!

Do you like gardening? Annunciation has eight beautiful gardens which are tended to by volunteers with our Garden Ministry. Many in our local neighbourhood stop by to enjoy the beauty of nature and have shared how peaceful they feel by the gardens.

Our Garden Ministry is looking for able-bodied people of all ages to join the team and help keep our gardens in beautiful shape. Throughout spring and summer, we need volunteers to:

  • Plant
  • Water
  • Weed

If you have limitations in time or body but still want to get involved, let us know! There are ways to adjust the schedule so you can serve. Click here to sign up as a volunteer and join the Garden Ministry team!
