There was a time not so long ago that the interaction between the Church, faith, and the wider culture was easier and more natural.
We used to build buildings and fill them up with Catholics. We can’t assume that anymore. It isn’t going to happen because we think it is or because we feel it is a good idea.
We are going to have to witness in ways that we have never done before. We are going to have to be much more intentional. We are called to make Christ present in the public sphere.
As we move into the fall we have two requests:
- Think about people who used to come to the parish and haven’t returned. Invite them back and accompany them. It’s not your job to make them come back. You’re not responsible for the result. You’re responsible for the ask.
- If you are coming to church, step forward and think about what ministry you could help with.
When the Holy Spirit is active in the people of God, good things come.
