Why Alpha?

Why Alpha?

Why Alpha?

We’re running Alpha again this Fall and we are excited! Before you close this piece because you’re tired of hearing about Alpha, wait.

There are so many reasons to run Alpha:

  • it helps build community,
  • creates a sense of belonging,
  • creates space to ask tough questions,
  • and creates a culture of invitation.

However, there is one reason that stands above all.

If we believe Jesus is who he says he is, we must run Alpha.

In the Mass readings for Monday, September 6, we read that the scribes and Pharisees were watching Jesus. This is no surprise. There were plenty of folks watching Jesus. However, these non-believers were watching Jesus “to see if he would cure”. They expected Jesus to do something unbelievable. They expected him to perform a miracle. They expected…

We run Alpha because we expect. We expect that the Holy Spirit is going to show up. We expect people will have an encounter with the Saviour of the world. We expect that lives will be transformed before our very eyes.

Do you?

If we believe Jesus is who he says he is, we have no choice. We proclaim the Gospel with the EXPECTATION that Jesus is going to move in us. This is why we run Alpha.

If you believe Jesus is who he says he is, an easy way to proclaim the Gospel is to bring someone with you to Alpha. If you are not sure, come to Alpha and pray, “Jesus, if you’re real, show me.”

On the day the scribes and Pharisees were watching him, Jesus healed a man’s withered hand. What will he do while you’re watching and expecting?
