Our parish library is entering an exciting new chapter! Over the past months, we've been thoughtfully refreshing the collection with one goal in mind: making it easier for parishioners to discover and borrow great Catholic books.
As part of this refresh, we've carefully curated a collection of approximately 350 books and studies. Each title was selected for its quality, relevance, and lasting value. The collection includes books on Scripture, the saints, prayer, Catholic teaching, marriage and family life, navigating illness and aging with faith, papal encyclicals, and many other topics. The library will also be moving to the Blue Room, where it will be more visible and accessible throughout the week, and a new digital catalogue will make it easier for parishioners to browse what's available. You’ll be able to search the catalogue digitally, as well as in person, and borrow books that interest you.
Stay tuned for next steps on our new system!
What about the books we’re not keeping?
As much as we love books, we can’t keep them all! It can be a little sad, especially to a book lover’s heart, to see a large amount given away. Our goal isn’t to get rid of them; we want them to have new life!
Some of these books have sat on the shelves for a decade without being borrowed. Others are duplicate copies, outdated, or outside the focus of our Catholic library. In some cases, we had a dozen titles on the same topic (for example, a particular saint); we kept a smaller selection of the strongest titles for each.
Our hope is that these books will now find new homes where they'll be read, enjoyed, and shared. This weekend, we’re inviting parishioners to peruse and take home any books that interest them!
Why a smaller collection?
A smaller curated library is easier to browse; shelves packed from end to end can be surprisingly overwhelming, and can actually discourage use! By emphasizing quality over quantity, we're making it easier for people to discover books that inspire them to grow in faith. We're also creating room to intentionally add new titles over time that respond to the needs and interests of our parish community. We hope to eventually showcase titles in News & Notes on a regular basis!
This refresh builds on the work of the many generous parishioners and volunteers who have donated, organized, and lovingly cared for our library over the years. Their dedication has created a wonderful collection and laid the foundation for this next chapter. We are deeply grateful for the time, care, and love that has gone into this ministry.
You’re invited to stop by the hall this weekend and browse the books available! If something catches your eye, we'd love for you to take it home and give it a new life on your bookshelf! All books are free, and we gratefully accept free-will offerings towards the upkeep of the library.
